Actual board game

PostFri 30 Oct 2015 13:51

Anyone play the real thing? I got into third edition when it released, but it's kind of dead now, in America.

I have it buried in a box somewhere. I have not played it in forever, but I have fond memories. I also have Man o' War for the same reason. Damn shame that one died off. My favorite GW game has been Warmaster, though.

I don't know war master. Was that the large figure RPG?

I found the Blood Bowl Reddit, and apparently this game is still quite popular in England, even though GW seems to have totally dropped it.

No, really Warmaster is the opposite. It is kind of epic scale warhammer. It was very inexpensive to get into, and pretty easy to play. We played it at the local game store for a VERY long time.

Hmmm, just looked around, and see that they discontinued Specialist games. That really sucks. Yea, GW has always been kind of piss-poor about their support. Cyanide is the only ones that have done much to keep Blood Bowl really going, and that has been virtual. I've never been a fan of WH40K or WH itself, but the specialist games (BFG, Man o' War, Warmaster, Mordheim, Necromunda, and bloodbowl) are all favorites of mine. I've enjoyed a few others from the lines, too.

I found an old catalog from GW. Now I remember Warmaster. Must be impossible to paint.

Back in another life I worked for GW. That company is rotten to the core man.

I still play regularly in a league in Scotland. There are lots of leagues around the world, including US, get in contact with the NAF if you want to find details for your closest.

There's just been the BloodBowl World Cup, held in Italy with over 900 players from around the world (alas I couldn't make it, but others from my league went).

Online is fun, but you really can't beat playing face to face with your opponent and the miniatures on the board, cursing the dice rolls as they always fail at the critical time :)

Honestly, I suck at painting but a passable job looks good on the field. Because of their size, many went black primer and it created good contrast. Up close... Yea difficult... But because of their small size and regiments, it hid all the problems in a sea of colors.

Bummer about GW. Like you, I worked at a game store too. :). So long ago. It was nice. I didn't need the money, but I got paid to play/run games on the night I always played on anyway. :). But, my store wasn't rotten. I have a lot of philosophical problems with GW. But they have created some good games and great minis.
